Volunteering with American Care
Give Comfort

Volunteers are a vital part of the American Care Hospice team. They give comfort, caring concern
and compassion to our patients and their families. Whether you have limited time to give or you have
a more flexible schedule, American Care has many meaningful volunteer opportunities available.

Ways to Volunteer

Patient Care and Support

Volunteers provide emotional support to patients in their homes through companionship, reading
aloud, life review and engaging in activities of interest to the patient. Support to families is provided
through provision of respite care, shopping, cooking and light housekeeping. Volunteers also provide
companionship and emotional support to patients at our inpatient units.

Office Support/ Receptionists at American Care

Provide clerical support to staff in our office. Tasks include assist with medical records, filing,
answering the telephone, and giving tours, but most importantly, the receptionist is responsible for
providing family members and visitors a warm welcome.

Special Events

Assist our Hospice Liaison at our agency booth at health fairs where you’ll have the opportunity to
answer questions about our services and assist others to better understand hospice care. Special
Events Volunteers also provide assistance before, during and after agency fundraisers and special
events.

Companion Program

In the absence of friends or family, volunteers sit with patients who are close to death in our
inpatient units or a contracted facility. Volunteers may provide light hand massage, play soft music,
read aloud or provide a loving presence at the bedside during this sacred time.

Tuck-In Program

Volunteers make weekly calls to our home patients who desire this service to provide a listening ear,
assess for new needs and answer questions about their care.
